ALL STAR SHOWDOWN !

HIGH SCHOOL * RISING SENIORS * UNDERCLASS

EAST BAY ALL STAR TOURNAMENT

Mario Iglesias Sr., who unexpectedly passed away April 15, 2011, was a life long baseball fan. Whether it was watching Stan Musial’s Cardinals, the 1972-74 Oakland A’s, the 2010 San Francisco Giants or local high schoolers, Mario loved baseball. Without a college education, he guided his two sons to Cal Berkeley and Stanford scholarships. While they were away in their professional careers, Mario Sr. would tell them all about the local players and how they were doing. His sons, Michael and Mario, want to pay tribute to their Dad and the annual “Showdown” is the ideal way…

CONCEPT: For years, high school players have expressed pride in their respective leagues. “The DFAL is the best league!” Another player would respond, “No, EBAL is the best.” Then a MVAL player would contribute, “If we had all our top players on one team, we would beat all of you!” Well, there is only one way to settle this… The ALL STAR SHOWDOWN!

SHOWDOWN: The obvious reason to organize this event is to see which league is best! It also gives players and coaches in each league (who fiercely battle against each other in league play) the chance to work together, promoting a stronger, more positive league the following season. According to college recruiters and pro scouts, this event will be heavily attended. While most exposure events are neither fun nor competitive, this event will be both, giving recruiters a chance to see players play to win rather than just showcasing.

DATES/LOCATION: – August 6th & 7th at Dougherty Valley High School

CONTACT: The Showdown coordinator is Jimmy Meuel (650 387 3635), Recruiting Coordinator at Menlo College. Headfirst Baseball will help organize the Showdown and HF Baseball will host. Michael Iglesias (510 757 7852) and Mario Iglesias (510 872 6340) can assist in any way. Email allstarshowdown@gmail.com

2011 League Information

In an effort to secure quality games against top Northern California competition, Headfirst Baseball  created the “Headfirst Wood Bat Summer League” in 2010. For the 2011 season, we will have 14U, 15U, 16U, 18U and 19U divisions.  Headfirst invited many of the top organizations around to participate. Each team will play one another twice and the top two performers in each division will face off at the end of the season on a Division 1 college field at the University of San Francisco! After each game, coaches will report the results so all teams can monitor their success in relation to the other teams in the league. Check the standings throughout the summer to see which teams will be the final two and earn the right to play on Benedetti Diamond in the end!
