HF Baseball introduces its newest program!

B.A.T. – Baseball Acceleration Training and “The Six Tool Development Program”

The baseball world generally acknowledges five tools that are most important to develop, Headfirst Baseball recognizes academics as a sixth tool.  The B.A.T. program is designed to help young players improve and create a strong work ethic, which will help on and off the field.  The 6 Tool Program will be held in the new HF Bercovich Baseball Acceleration Facility in Pleasanton, CA.  Students will attend one class per week, offered on Sunday nights.

6 Tool Overview

Offensive Power – This is the most fun for players to work on!  Players need to be able to maximize their physical ability to drive the ball.  Emphasis is on a powerful offensive approach.  However, they need a solid swing first…

Hitability - This refers to a player’s skills as a hitter.  It starts with hitting mechanics but also refers to plate awareness, utilizing the bunt, using all fields and pitch selection.  Even if a player is not a power guy, he can still be strong in “Hitability.”

Throwing ArmRegardless of the position, it is important to have a strong arm.  Good arm action will be the foundation but equally important will be the footwork involved in each position to maximize arm strength.  Of course, having a good arm that is sore is not helpful to anybody so we will also go over arm care and conditioning.

Defensive Glove and FootworkEach position has its own set of mechanical aspects to field the ball effectively.  We will help players improve as outfielders, first basemen, infielders, catchers and pitchers.  Though the glove work is critical, proper footwork is necessary to be in an effective position to throw.

Baserunning and SpeedThough we will cover proper running form and speed enhancement, we will also go over precise baserunning strategies from each base.  Players will be very confident in their ability to take leads, secondary leads, steal bases and make good baserunning decisions according to the number of outs, etc.

AcademicsFor a player to give himself more opportunities to play post high school baseball, he has to get the job done in the classroom. Good work ethic is mandatory on and off the field.  We will have an academic seminar and monitor individual progress.  This way players will be informed and equipped when it comes to academics as well as athletics.

The BAT Program was designed by Michael and Mario Iglesias with Buzz Cemen to help players reach their most immediate goals and create a foundation for long term baseball aspirations.  Many programs offer baseball insights and Headfirst seeks to set ourselves apart again by offering academic enrichment as well.
