Chris began his career in Union City Little League, where he later played in the Senior Little League World Series. He attended Hayward High School (with Michael and Mario) where his honors included All League, All East Bay, HAAL Player of the Year, All County, All State, Mizuno All American, and Collegiate Baseball’s Dream Team. He led the Farmers to the NCS title as a senior. Chris also played in the Connie Mack World Series. “1992 Top High School Prospect” baseball card set that included Derek Jeter. Named tp 1992 collegiate baseball “Mizuno All American Dream Team” that included Jeter and A Rod. In 1993 he was a Junior College All American at Seminole J.C.Received Dick Howser Award, 1994 National Junior College Player Of The Year (Baseball Weekly). He was selected in the 20th round by the Seattle Mariners and in 1994 was a Bellingham Mariners All Star and the Top 2nd Base Prospect in the league. In 1995 Chris played for the Riverside Pilots (striking out in his first at bat against Michael and then hitting the ball off of the center field wall in his next at bat)…1996 the Lancaster Jet Hawks and Wisconsin Timberrattler. Was three hitter on team that included four hitter, Big Papi (Ortiz).…1997 the Lancaster and Memphis Chicks (AA)…1998 the Orlando Rays (AA)…1999 the Allentown Ambassadors (.346 .avg in the Northern League) …2000 the New Jersey Jackals. Chris Worked at a baseball academy in Oklahoma giving private lessons, working camps, and coaching teams. He has also worked numerous Headfirst camps and has managed teams in Headfirst Tournaments.
BRIAN THOMPSON
Of the many elite athletes the HAAL has produced over the years, Brian Thompson rates among the best of them. He began his playing days in Tennyson Little League before moving on to play in Hayward Babe Ruth. He went to Sunset High School where he created a reputation for himself as a premier athlete, excelling in both basketball and baseball. On the court, as a three year varsity player, Brian ended up being selected to the All HAAL team, All East Bay and HAAL Player of the Year. He led Sunset to its only hoop title in school history. After basketball season Brian raced to the baseball field to do more damage as a three year varsity player, accumulating such honors as All HAAL, All East Bay and HAAL Player of the Year. Brian’s combination of speed and power attracted pro scouts and he was drafted by the New York Mets out of high school. However, he chose to pursue baseball at Chabot College before signing and playing professionally with the Houston Astros. While at Chabot, Brian established himself as one of the most respected players in the school’ s history. He was an All League selection, All State, and an All American. He is #1 in Chabot’s record books for career hits (151) and #2 in the books for home runs during the playoffs (8). Brian was a member of the All Decade Team and was inducted into the Chabot College Hall of Fame. Brian has helped Headfirst Baseball (and the Gamers) since its inception as a coach, manager, advisor and instructor.
Headfirst Alum George Athen takes the reigns of the 13U Gamers after taking the 12U Gamers in 2008-2009.George, a long time assistant with the Gamers was most recently an assistant coach with the 16U Gamers in the Summer of 2008. George was also an assistant with the Headfirst Junior Olympic team and the Headfirst 13U team that won the USSSA World Series in 2006. George is a veteran of the Headfirst Summer Camps and Fall League, as well as Santa Clara University camps. George graduated from Castro Valley High School, where he played baseball and basketball. George played baseball in Castro Valley with Castro Valley Babe Ruth and Little League, before playing for the inaugural Headfirst Upper Division team, in 2006.
NILS SAMODOUSKY
Local product Nils Samudovsky joins Headfirst for the Fall of 2007 as an assistant coach with the Headfirst 18U team. Last Summer Nils was the head coach for 15U in 2008, the 14U team in Fall 2008, and the 11U team in 2009. Nils is currently the manager of the 12U Gamers. Nils played for Diablo Valley College in Danville in 2004 and 2005 after a stellar career at Castro Valley High School, before Tommy John surgery ended his career in 2005. Nils played his youth baseball in Castro Valley, with Castro Valley Little League and Babe Ruth League, where he was an all-star.
